The prosecutor in her case was Angela Corey, who also prosecuted George Zimmerman who was acquitted in the death of Trayvon Martin. After an outcry at the apparent racial double standard in the application of Stand Your Ground, Corey told the Washington Post, “I think social media is going to be the destruction of this country.”
A round of applause to my generation. We have broken a huge barrier today in making social media activism RELEVANT. So relevant that by the click of a button we can sway the public opinion. What Angela Corey fails to realize is that laws, trials, and sentencing are meant to be HARD, encourage DIALOGUE, and ignite PASSION for justice on BOTH aisles. It’s disturbing to hear that activism is an INCONVENIENCE to prosecutors.
Well, I’ll go and sit my little conformist, apathetic, drone behind down and let you run the world to hell.
